Marie Bloomfield is a registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)-AHPRA and is endorsed as a Clinical Psychologist. She is recognized by Medicare Australia as a qualified provider of specialist clinical psychology. She is also a Full Member of the Australian Psychologist Society (APS), and a member of the College of Clinical Psychologists. In addition, she is approved as a Principal/Secondary Supervisor by the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)-AHPRA for most pathways for prospective applicants for registration as a Psychologist to the board.
Marie Bloomfield offers a range of psychological services from psychological counselling to group training in the community and in the workplace supporting various organisations, private businesses as well as health provider services.
Marie is passionate about psychology and continues to extend her professional skills in Australia and overseas. In June 2014, Marie attended a Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher Training Program offered by Dr Chris Germer and Dr Kristin Neff in California, USA.
Marie Bloomfield is a leader in teaching Mindfulness and Self-Compassion in Australia. She has conducted over 100 Mindfulness and Self-Compassion group training programs for everyone from all walks of life as well as for health professionals in the Gold Coast, Sydney and Canberra. Marie has worked as a Clinical Psychologist in various setting including academic settings such as at the University of Canberra but also extensively in Mental Health settings such as Psychiatric Hospitals, General Hospitals, Community Health Centres, and Disability Services dealing with a whole array of mental health issues. In addition to her private practice, she has worked as a consultant providing counselling, training and critical incident management to assist organizations and employees in the workplace.
As a child, Marie was fascinated by people and wanted to better understand herself and others. She was always asking why. She has a great desire to connect, to help others to improve their life. Marie was born in Canada, in the province of Quebec, and yes! she also speaks French fluently. In the 70’s, her desire to explore the world, led her to settle in Australia. In the 80’s, after completing a Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of NSW, she worked in various mental health services in the Sydney area. In the 90’s, the whole family moved to Northern NSW.
After a painful divorce in 1985 and a close friend dying from cancer in 1986, Marie was on a spiritual quest where she had the opportunity to study and practice at various times: Christian Psychology, "A Course in Miracles", Hinduism and Buddhism.
In 2000, her family of 5 children were growing, becoming more independent, so she re-focused again on her career. Marie had a successful private practice Bloomfield Psychology in Canberra before she relocated to the Gold Coast to continue to offer face to face or online psychological sessions as well as group programs in mindfulness and self-compassion.
